1. Stop Taking Plastic Bags From Shops - 24 Sep 2006

   I have recently started using cloth bags; I bought some really good jute ones from Sainsbury’s for £1.99 each, which I thought was pretty good. They are really strong and spacious; I feel soooo good now when I put my shopping in them; doing stuff like this is good for the soul as well as the environment, methinks!

2. Recycle Your Stuff - 24 Sep 2006

   We are just getting a green wheelie bin. We already do lots of recycling ourselves: paper, card, plastic, aluminium. I am a bit worried becuse someone told me that our council has recyclable waste shipped to the developing world to fill their landfill sites. Is this just a vicious rumour, or is there some truth in it? What does anyone else think.

3. Make Your Own Greetings Cards - 04 Oct 2006

   Lurrrve making cards. Am trying to use more and more earth friendly bits, though, as I’m not sure how ethical the card making industry is on the whole. Recycled card blanks are good from www.eco-crafts.co.uk . You also need to be careful about a lot of the embellishments as they are not fair trade; a good place to buy fairly traded bits is MIC crafts (not sure of their email address but if you put MIC crafts into a search engine I’m sure they will come up). I too keep greetings cards to cut up and transform into new masterpieces; wrapping paper can be good for that as well. Happy days!!!

4. DIY vegetables! - 04 Oct 2006

   Had an allotment for the last season but it was quite hard to keep up to. I am determined to make a go of it though. Anyone know how to deal with whitefly organically. My next door neighboury people on the allotment didn’t like me as I wouldn’t use pesticides and they said all my buggies would go on to their stuff.

5. Become a Fair Trader - in your community or workplace - 04 Oct 2006

   I sell Tearcraft stuff at my church and hope also to start running a Traidcraft stall once a month. It’s really easy to do; I just need to be careful that I don’t buy too much myself!

6. Resist Over-Consumption for Christmas - 04 Oct 2006

   I have difficulty with this one as when I told rels that we weren’t buying anything apart from for the kids this year, they nearly had a coronary. Obviously don’t expect anything back; don’t want anything, anyway; we have way too much stuff! Love the idea about the calendar; will definitely do that one! (Though they don’t deserve it; they’re soooo grumpy!!)

7. Make A Special Effort To Look Out For Strangers - 07 Oct 2006

   Please be careful of this as one of my friends gave a bed to a homeless person for the night (not very sensible I know but her motives were good) and he sexually abused her daughter. Be kind but keep yourself and your family safe!!

8. Use 'real' nappies - 09 Oct 2006

   Bought my bambino mio nappies 2nd hand from Ebay and they are fabulous. You just need to be in a routine. I wash them every 2 -3 days with soapnuts at 60C and dry them on the line or on an airer; I don’t have a tumble drier. I use biodegradable liners and have just switched to washable wipes which are no more work at all ‘cos you are washing the nappies anyway. I love real nappies and only use the Nature Boy and Girl or Moltex Oko if we are away on hols somewhere there are no laundry facs. As for nighttimes, I just add a booster which seems quite satisfactory. And as for keeping women in a life of drugery; lots of so called labour saving devices are extrememly harmful to the planet and you can keep them for me.
