  1. Use your computer to solve global problems -

I started doing this a few weeks ago and had the same concerns as gingajen but no problems yet. Been using one I found on www.worldcommunitygrid.org and you get the options of swopping between different projects, an AIDS one, a cancer one and another I don’t properly understand but looks good!! Provides a much more interesting screen saver than that the standard microsoft windows ones. You get points for how much your computer does for the projects and you can have a team entry – maybe YOLG can create a team??

  2. Sign Up Online To Become An Organ Donor -

Have always tried to sign the organ donation slips on forms and think I’ve told my family but it is nice to feel you can properly register this somewhere!

  3. Put Eco Balls in your Washing Machine -

I got some of these a few weeks ago and was initially disappointed. Not because they weren’t getting the dirt out (they were – amazing!)but because the clothes came out with a horrible musty smell. HOWEVER then discovered that it was due to a mouldy machine. After some vigorous cleaning (unfortunately bit too vigourous and resulted in having to pay £30 for a engineer to come and replace the door seal – DOH!) I now have lovely fresh smelling clothes and still using the Ecoballs. Quite scary to think what my previous detergent smell was masking – at least I now know I am not washing my clothes in mouldy water!

  4. Take A Mug To Work - don't use plastic -

I’ve been doing this for a while and generally it is working well. The only problem is that I have a bad memory and keep forgetting to take my mug down to lunch with me and having to do a run up and down the stairs. Suppose it is good for the fitness!

  5. Don't just recycle, Freecycle -

Joined my local Freecycle after reading about it on this site. It’s great! Trying not to read the offered adverts as don’t want to end up with more clutter but it is fascinating to read what sort of things exchange hands through this! I’ve managed to give away a few things already including a random selection of four year old magazines! It makes you wonder what is the most obscure thing you can give away…

  6. Get Rid Of Some Of Your Books -

My hope is that putting a few books on the Green Metropolis site will give me time to adjust to the fact that I am parting with them. Even if they haven’t sold in a few months then maybe I will be psychologically in a better position to cope with giving them away to the charity shop. :-)

  7. Send Some Cards, Through The Bars. -

The details for the 2006 Christmas Card campaigns are now on both the Christian Solidarity and Amnesty sites!

  8. Use your computer to solve global problems -

The cancer project has finished but World Community Grid is still working on others. I’m currently signed up to a Muscular Dystrophy one. See www.worldcommunitygrid.org

  9. Ladies: Consider a mooncup! -

Got this a few months ago and very nearly gave up after my first few tries (ouch!!). However gave it another go last month and now converted… think it’s fab and would definately recommend it for all the reasons listed above!
