Another option is to invest with your local credit union (if you have one). The returns are pretty rubbish but your money is used to loan to other members. it provides small cheap(relatively) loans to those who cannot access or afford the big banks.

Equigas are stars. They do a fantastic job for the poor and saved me money as a normal customer too. Its a no-brainer. Classic win-win, tell everyone to switch!

  3. Stop Taking Plastic Bags From Shops -

it can be done but needs pre-planning! last time i visited Ikea i bought several of their big blue bags at 25p each. (they are selling them at cost price to discourage throw away ones). We keep a couple permanantly in the back of the car, as long as you remember to take them out when you get to the shops, they do the job admirably. it’s a good conversation starter at the supermarket checkout.

  4. See An Inconvenient Truth. -

This is a good watch. Most of it is stuff you sort of knew, but it brings it all together and reminds you. The suggestions at the end of the film seem, on the face of it, a bit weak. But then you realise that if we all did it….that’s what this site is all about, right! As Al Gore says “It is easy to go from denial to despair without stopping at doing-something”

see the film, then do something.

  5. Ban the Bulb! -

John Lewis have got energy saving bulbs at 99p each! i’ve bought 20 for our church lounge and they are fine. the spot bulbs we used seemed to last no time at all. soon the whole room will be on energy savers at a quarter of the cost of replacing the planet burners! Act quick they are bound to sell out at this price.
