  1. Give Thanks Before A Meal -

I don’t see why some this is such a Christian thing.

I guess the problem comes with WHO you give thanks to. As Pagans we give thanks to nature this seems to be pretty well accepted by everyone even Christians. It doesn’t stop them from saying thanks to anyone/anything else.

The idea of a heavy dose of any religion with a meal is unappealing to many. Perhaps they can just take a moment to think about the food and how it got to the table.

Food is not the only thing we need to give thanks for, we need to appreciated everything that nature gives us, from sunny days, to that perfect life partner.

    Blessed be

  2. Go Local - Join A Food Cooperative -

The “True Food Coop” has markets all around Reading, you can even give them a helping hand. This is a REAL community project with markets all over Reading just about everyday.

    http://www.truefood.coop

I live just outside Reading in Bracknell and we make a visit every fortnight to the market in Woodley.

  3. Stop Taking Plastic Bags From Shops -

I went in a shop the other day and was asked if I NEEDED a bag for my shopping, and interesting way of asking, which suggests that the assistant didn’t think I needed one.

I wonder if anyone here who works in a shop has tried (or would like to try) to reduce the number of bags they give to customers with such tactics and do they work?

  4. Compost Your Leftovers -

Not wishing to be cynical, but the local authorities have recycling targets to meet, by getting you to use the council composting facility, they appear to be doing better, even though composting at home is more environmentally sound.

Get a compost heap, not a composting bin.

  5. Choose to have one meat-free day a week in your home -

We are all vegetarian, well except the cat, he is demi vegan, he gets half meat and half (ami) vegan cat food. http://www.veggiepets.com/

Originally he was going to be 100% vegan, but we are a little unsure now having ready about acidity issues in the vegan diet.

We are now heading towards being vegan, but don’t want the label or the inflexibility when eating out.

  6. Energy Efficient Cooking -

If you make your own, real fresh pasta, then this is not an issue, it only takes 60 seconds to cook.

Of course it does call for some hard work, but it is worth it.

Water boils at 100 degrees centigrade, it does not need to boil rapidly, all that does is to make lots of steam and waste energy.

Turn the heat down to a really low simmer, it might not seem as hot, but it is, just as hot, get a thermometer and prove it to yourself.

  7. Offset your Airmiles -

Haven’t flown for a decade, can’t really claim to be generous, as it is done by default.

  8. Get Rid of Your Car - OK, ambitious, but... -

Not for everyone, but as a two car family, we are getting rid of one.

  9. Slow Down, Calm Down (Stick to the speed limit) -

This also save a lot of petrol, energy, greenhouse gasses and so on… Do It!

  10. Put Your Money Where Your Heart is (Bank Ethically) -

I find the Co-op very good
