Having the cloth bags hanging up in the kitchen or near the front door helps with making it a habit to use cotton bags rather than plastic bags. I also take a big enough bag out with me as my handbag for small items that I am buying.

Shop Small (Buy local, Switch from the Supermarket) - 23 Apr 2006
I am really enjoying not having to visit large supermarkets…however it is usefull having a local coop and good greengrocers near us. Still trying to get the coop to stock goods such as Redbush teabags so I can save petrol and shopping trips further afield.
Give Your Unwanted / Unworn Clothes To Charity - 23 Apr 2006
What a good way to sort through belongings, lighten the load and help local charity shops!! Love it…just have to get the bags out of the house before I change my mind or think of something it might be useful for at some point!! Two bags of clothes to local charity shop this week.

We made up some hampers of fair trade and local produce inside baskets which needed no wrapping, and simply some shredded paper for packaging.
Stop Taking Plastic Bags From Shops - 08 Feb 2007
Loads of shops are now selling jute and cloth bags near me. Tesco, Booths and Local health shop ‘Appleseeds’ sell very good value bags. Having several bags helps with remembering to take them, although I am also using these bags at school as a school teacher for props in lessons etc.

Keep The Warmth In Your House - 29 Jan 2009
We are putting reflective material behind each radiator as we decorate throughout the house. Double glazing newly in and insulation in the loft done. Draft excluders still to go on doors. Have not decided whether to fit a gas fire in the lounge or open it up for an open fire, or neither as our central heating is great at heating the house with our insulation.
Ditch The Disposable Items - 30 Jan 2009
Have started using petit desous reusable nappies for Hannah and they are great. Amazing how much rubbish we were creating with disposables when she was first born. Also using bamboo wipes instead of wet wipes. All good as Hannah seems happier with these and nappy rash is kept to a minimal.
Plan to use a mooncup once stop breast feeding and the need arises in the future.
My Mum has knitted me some cotton dish cloths which become cleaning and floor cloths once they are a little older. They are great and wash up really well, as well as looking quite funky in their wacky colours.
Give A Gift That Keeps On Giving - 30 Jan 2009
Did not know what to get our neighbours son for his 21st birthday so trotted down to Oxfam and bought a mosquito net gift. We also gave people the option of buying World Vision gifts for our wedding presents, and quite a few did so we ended up with several goats, fruit trees, toilets and school books which was great. Thinking of suggesting this for Hannah’s christening presents.

I have just sent the email to friends and family, so hopefully some of them will take it up. What a good idea.
Give Something Away - and declutter your life - 30 Jan 2009
Need to make time to get my head round free cycle as my husband has emailed me the details. We have both done a new year clothes sort out and taken loads to the charity shop. Need to go through our loft and do the same . . . rather putting that off at the mo but will make that a mission for February when my baby daughter allows me the time.

Hi
My time commitments are a little more precious now as I am now a new Mum, having given birth to Hannah in October. This has been the most amazing thing to happen to me in my life so far. However, I am still working out more ways to be generous within my ever changing life.
