  1. Become A Blood Donor -

I have been doing this for about 4 years now but have just recently been told that my iron level is quite low so now go every other time.Every little helps!

  2. Stop Taking Plastic Bags From Shops -

I have been taking a ‘bag for life’ out shopping for a few months now and my youngest daughter and I are quite good at refusing the carriers in the shops but my husband and teenage daughter can’t bring themselves to say ‘no thanks’!I’m working on them!!

  3. Buy Nothing on Buy Nothing Day (November 26th) -

We spent the day in town but went to the park, had a chilly outdoor picnic, looked at the shops in a different part of town from our usual drag. Went home and did a jigsaw as a family.Much better fun than I expected.

  4. Get Rid Of Some Of Your Books -

We do this periodically,to clear space for more to be honest, but at least they go to a new home via the charity shop or greenmetropolis

  5. Recycle Your Inkjet Cartridges -

I take mine to the local charity shop, who initially didn’t know what I was talking about.Must say that I felt like leaving the shop but I asked to see the person in charge who took them with thanks. No problem now in donating them!!

  6. Choose to have one meat-free day a week in your home -

No sacrifice as we have veggie for 25 years so can’t really claim to be generous with this one.

  7. Shop locally -

Have a veg box delivered each week from River Nene and can’t praise it highly enough. So much so that I was chatting to 2 builders who did some work for me and they saw my box and have taken a leaflet back to their wives! Try to buy from local shops but have been caught out with out of date food once or twice which is a bit upsetting.

  8. Make A Special Effort To Look Out For Strangers -

Each day I try to smile at someone I don’t know. My children hate it when I chat to pensioners at the bus stop!!

  9. Slow Down, Calm Down (Stick to the speed limit) -

I dislike it when I’m travelling at the speed limit and get overtaken, especially in built up areas, but I try to remember something my driving instructor told me,’Better to have the idiots where you can see them!’

  10. Put Eco Balls in your Washing Machine -

After researching these on the internet,I decided to do a few experiments. The science behinds these looks a bit’dubious’to say the least. I found a plastic ball that the children played with years ago,put it in the washing machine with 2 tablespoons of soap powder and a spoon of soda, and using vinegar as a fabric conditioner, have extremely soft, clean clothes. Also tried it with Ecover laundry liquid(1/2 cap) and the results are just as good.Have come to the conclusion that it’s the banging the clothes about in the machine, similar to beating them on a rock, that makes the difference. Save yoourself some money and try this first. All my friends who’ve tried it were very impressed.

  11. Give A Gift That Keeps On Giving -

Have been doing this for a couple of years at Christmas when we run out of ideas for presents for people who had everything. A mixed reaction but they came round in the end.
