I already pass on a lot of clothes to charity shops or put in my recycling crate each week. This weekend I’ve signed up for a rag rug making workshop using old clothes too!

Give Your Unwanted / Unworn Clothes To Charity - 16 Jan 2006
I already pass on a lot of clothes to charity shops or put in my recycling crate each week. This weekend I’ve signed up for a rag rug making workshop using old clothes too!
Give Something Away - and declutter your life - 16 Jan 2006
I’ve just joined my local Freecycle and am planning a large pile of stuff to go on there!
Get Rid Of Some Of Your Books - 16 Jan 2006
I’ve listed about a third of my books on Green Metropolis (but everytime I sell some I tend to then buy some more from there!). Also, Lincolnshire libraries only charge 15p for web reservations and you can reserve pretty much anything.
Slow Down, Calm Down (Stick to the speed limit) - 16 Jan 2006
A school friend’s Mum was killed by a speeding driver not long after I passed my test, which is something I’ve always thought of when driving. I’m also aware that not everyone on the road is safe (they may be under the influence, driving illegally or whatever) and so you can’t rely on other people’s reactions to stop an accident. Driving with care and within the speed limit means that if another driver does something silly everyone around has more chance of coming out unscathed.
Put Your Money Where Your Heart is (Bank Ethically) - 16 Jan 2006
I’ve been with smile for about 4-5 years now and they’re wonderful – customer service is excellent and friendly and the online bank stuff is clear and easy to use. Although I haven’t been into a bank branch for years I do use the local post office for paying in.
Take A Mug To Work - don't use plastic - 18 Jan 2006
Any ideas what to do about travelling on public transport? I’m not usually in enough time at the station (changing trains) to be able to get a china mug & sit in the cafe. Don’t want to miss out on my cuppa but equally don’t want to take a plastic disposable one. I’ve thought of taking a Thermos, but already have quite a bit of stuff to carry with me. Do you think it would be OK to take my insulated mug (with cover) and ask them to make the tea in that? Then there isn’t the Health & Safey excuse of getting burnt/pouring it on someone else cos my mug has a lid!
Love books? Join the library - 05 Jul 2006
Have just left Lincolnshire – loads of lovely libraries and web reservations for books only cost 15p! Now in Nottinghamshire – where I’ve been able to join the library online! My library card is being posted to me and off I go!
Switch to Green Household Cleaners - 13 Mar 2007
I’ve found Borax at Boyes (which is only in the East Midlands, Yorkshire, but is a similar shop to Wilkos). I think I’ve also seen it at a local hardware shop, so it’s probably worth asking in there if you have one nearby.
Switch it off at the Plug. (Don't Stand By.) - 12 May 2007
Wireless now goes off at the wall every night. Microwave is now always off – only switch it on at the wall if I need to use it! My DVD player automatically picks up the date/time when it’s turned on so is fine to leave switched off most of the time. And my electricity bill? Now less for a 3 bed house than it was in a 1 bed flat!
Ladies: Consider a mooncup! - 12 May 2007
Haven’t used a Mooncup, but I bought washable pads over two years ago and wouldn’t ever consider going back to the disposables. They’re so much more comfortable, work really well, no mess, really no hassle to wash (they go in with the towel load so no extra washing) and I’ve saved SO much money, plus saved goodness knows how much going into landfill. (I’m putting myself down as doing this action, even though I’m not actually using a Mooncup…)
