  1. Send a Child a Christmas Box -

S’a quite good idea, but I don’t much like Samaritan’s purse so am not signing up for this.

  2. Know your local political leaders -

Went to visit the MP a while back – which was an interesting experience. Have to remind myself to keep doing this.

  3. Shower More, Bath Less -

Oops shower bust and haven’t got the cash to fix it at the mo.

  4. Commit random acts of generosity -

Why does it have to be random?? Surely an intentional and thought out act of kindness is likely to have more of an effect.

  6. Buy An Ethical T-Shirt (Support Someone In A Developing Country) -

er… there appears to be a slight problem with the online shop at the moment…

Also, just to say that all generousy types are invited to join our business (it is a co-operative so you too can own a piece of an ethical business)

  7. Buy An Ethical T-Shirt (Support Someone In A Developing Country) -

I have, thanks very much. We’ll send it out this afternoon.

The shop appears to be working again now, sorry for the gremlins.

  9. Buy An Ethical T-Shirt (Support Someone In A Developing Country) -

    Doof.

Currently we do not have childrens’ sized T-shirts, however we do have some ‘S’ sized unisex. Also we have some spare material in the factory so I will take the suggestion to our next members’ meeting.

  10. Get someone to join the Generous Community -

Hello to everyone here from cityhippy.net :D

  11. Put Eco Balls in your Washing Machine -

Sad to report that after more than a year of experimenting with these, we have recently given up.

We’re not convinced that there is much difference between using these and washing in hot water – and whilst of course we don’t want to use more soap than necessary, well… basically we’d quite like to wear clean clothing.

  12. DIY vegetables! -

In our annual generous review, we decided that we’re too slack and ought to be growing veg. Off to see the local allotment tonight – apparently it is very overgrown and underused. So that could be a bit of a challenge.

  13. Shop locally -

We’ve decided to buy less fairtrade and spend more time looking for more local stuff.

  14. Offset your Airmiles -

I’d have to agree with mark (and New Internationalist).

Tree planting is good, but is going to have little or no effect on global carbon balancing. As it is the concentration of carbon that is the problem, it is not much help to know that the tree takes up the CO2 produced by the plane during a lifetime of growth – unless you can find a tree that reaches maturity in the time it takes to fly to wherever you’re going.

On the other hand we have some typical NI overstatement (I stopped reading it some years ago as the negativity was sending me mad). Lots of the offset trees are planted in western countries. Biofuels are grown in the UK and other western countries.

  15. Switch it off at the Plug. (Don't Stand By.) -

We’ve been switching off our microwave and oven in-between use for about a year now – the rare occasions when we use the oven-timer, we just reset the clock first. We have to switch off the digital radio as it buzzes when on stand-by! However, we’re not so good at switching off the computer, so will focus on this.
