   Robin already gives blood regularly – I (Lorraine) used to but got pregnant three times over a six year period! You can’t donate whilst pregnant or for one year after childbirth, so I got out of the habit, will try to grt back to it. Thanks for the prompt.

   I’m intrigued by this! I do steam all veg, thereby using only one ring and will definitely give this a go.

3. Shop locally - 14 Feb 2006

   After Greenbelt 2005 was inspired to finally sort the veg box thing, did it in September. Was a bit concerned about fussy kids(!) and waste of stuff as the local one I found had a set box and no choice. It has worked out O.K – the kids soon got over the shock of dirty carrots and have even become a little more adventurous, 2 out of 3 now eat cabbage! Waste has ocassionally been an issue though, try as I might even we can’t consume a whole large cabbage every week! So I’m about to switch to a local delivery scheme where I can order via email what I want but not all of their stuff is local, they focus on the organic and so some produce comes from Spain, etc. Is it always a trade off? Am still working on completely ditching the supermarket, any tips?

4. Stop Taking Plastic Bags From Shops - 14 Feb 2006

   I am finding this hard. I do have a jute bag (purchased at Greenbelt) and do use it locally. But I haven’t encountered helpful or understanding shop assistants, when I politely refused a bag in a local shop recently the shop assistant threw the one she’d got ready for me in the bin! Also in Morrison’s a bag packer ignored the pile of bags I got to re-use, mumbled something about having to use their branded bags (most of the ones I ‘d got were!) and proceeded to use new ones. Is this typical?
