Compost Your Leftovers - 08 Oct 2005
This is cheating really as we’ve been doing it for a year or two. We’re delighted at how little goes into our dustbin each week. Kinder to our dustmen’s backs? Peter’s church also composts, with a special container for terabags after every service so everyone can join in.
Recycle Your Stuff - 03 Nov 2005
Some parts of my borough have orange bags in which you can put paper, plastic and cans, and the council will collect it. I’ve asked for the service to be extended to the rest of the borough but no result yet. So it’s down to the paper- can- and bottle-banks still. Why don’t councils make it easier to recycle? Especially as London is covered in posters, saying “London let’s recycle more”! I’ve got a bag full of old clothes waiting to go to the charity shop but don’t know how to get it there. Perhaps I should split it into smaler bags. Don’t tell my family but a number of my Christmas presents end up as raffle prizes!
Recycle Your Stuff - 30 Nov 2005
Guess what! The council have now put recycling banks right at the end of my road – and we can put plastic bottles in it. It’s very pleasing.
Buy Presents That Make A Difference - 30 Nov 2005
Carole’s family are happy to receive gifts for charity from Oxfam etc, especially as it means they don’t have to get us anything! Peter’s family still expect meaningless gifts, however.

And i thought the council didn’t listen. After asking them to extend the orange bag scheme to our area, we’ve recently received a leaflet saying we’ll be getting them. We can put paper, card, cans and plastic bottles into them, and the council will collect them, which is great.
Take A Mug To Work - don't use plastic - 11 May 2006
I’ve always used a mug at work, but at my current workplace there are no washing-up facilities, so it’s difficult.Instead, I use a bottle of water which I refill daily.
Give Thanks Before A Meal - 04 Jul 2006
We’ve always done this even in restaurants but sometimes forget when we’re in a hurry. We bought a ‘grace cube’ from a Christian bookshop, as the kids’ prayers were always the same, but we don’t use all the prayers on it as one is a bit obscure. So we choose the prayer we feel like praying atthe time.
Get a water butt! - 01 Sep 2006
You can use a plastic rubbish bin with a hole cut out of the lid to accommodate the drainpipe, which is cheaper than buying a proper water butt. But you’ll have to dip your watering can in it to get the water out.
Get A Free Home Energy Report: Save Two Tonnes of C02 (and £250!) - 27 Nov 2006
We also got a couple of free low energy light bulbs for filling it in. Only 60watt but OK where we don’t need the light to be bright.
Ditch The Disposable Items - 27 Nov 2006
Thanks to Generous for bringing Mooncup to my attention, a great idea, and it really works.
Ladies: Consider a mooncup! - 21 Feb 2007
Mine’s worked a treat. (ButI had to buy a new one after being distracted while boiling the first one.) Much better than pads or tampons.
