  1. Put Your Money Where Your Heart is (Bank Ethically) -

My wife banks with the Co-op already but I can’t see me changing over to them. They may have an ethical policy but the way they treat their staff is not ethical at all. How can you force people to have their working terms and conditions changed without agreement? Not very ethical.

In addition, I work away for 4 days a week. It is already a 10 mile drive to visit the nearest branch of my own bank there but I’d have too drive 30-40 miles to a Co-op.

  2. Encourage Others To Go Generous -

We have decided to become Traidcraft representatives for our chapel. We are kicking this off at the Harvest Lunch a week Sunday. In addition I’m teaching the kids in the Sunday School and Youth Group about the need to act as responsible citizens.

  3. Switch To Good (Green Or Socially Resonsible) Energy -

We have switched to Manweb’s Green Energy H2O scheme. This promises to purchase the same amount of electricity we use from hydro-electric schemes in Scotland. In addition we’ll save money compared to our current tariff.

  4. Organise Your Money (What You Want To Give Away) -

Was doing this before Generous. Always sit down at the start of each year too work out where my allocated pot will go too. Then contribute via direct debit or standing order and make sure I tick the gift aid box.

  5. Encourage Others To Go Generous -

Just to update. The wife has managed to get her work to allow her to set up a Traidcraft stall selling biccies etc. We have got the church to commit to becoming registered as a Fairtrade Church. I’ve introduced my new housemates at my weekday house to become more organically minded and supply an organic veg box every week to them.

  6. Buy Presents That Make A Difference -

We’ve done ours from the World Vision catalogue. Its much the same as Oxfam, Christian Aid etc but has a greater choice. We’ve tried to match the gifts to the people concerned – i.e. a flock of sheep to my sis and a toilet for my dad….

  7. Shop locally -

We tried Abel & cole but found that we had better value for money from Riverford at riverford.co.uk. The box is bigger and you get more variety. However you do get the problem that the boxes are ready chosen and you don’t get to exclude things you may not like – such as cabbage UGH!!!!

Jeff & Dith has not supplied any profile information yet. And that's fine. Remember, Generous is about community, not compulsion! That said, because it's about community, a bit of information about you helps us all feel more like we're in this together. So go on, give us a few insights.
