  1. Don't just recycle, Freecycle -

Our local rural county has over 2000 members and counting on our Freecycle list. I use it regularly, usually to give, especially right now, as we’re taking the opportunity of just having moved into a new home to rid ourselves of a lot of clutter. Focus for our family right now is “Simplify!”

  2. Give Something Away - and declutter your life -

We’ve been giving away lots to friends, family, chairty and locals in our area in relation to simplifying after our move. Last week we gave away: A box of antique wooden dollhouse furniture from my own long ago dollhouse; Two beautiful porcelain dolls (to local little girls through a community parenting list); Multiple boxes of housewares and bags of clothing to local charity shop; Box of peg board puzzles, mini animals, and other toys, plus a paper shopping bag full of wooden tracks and Brio trains to a local preschool; Misc things to family.

Last month we gave away: A standing mixer to a friend; A brand new stainless steel microwave that was in our newly purchased home, given to a neighbor widow (which hubby installed for her) since we don’t use a microwave; Curtains/Window treatments to friends and charity.

Still have lots to give away, including brand new carpeting from the house bedrooms (we’re allergic) Books, games, housewares and other clutter.

  3. Give Your Unwanted / Unworn Clothes To Charity -

Working my way through organizing the closets and dressers after moving into a new home. Hubby and I share one small closet and dresser, and our preteen boys share one large dresser (their closet is for playthings.) So if a new clothing item comes in, something has to go out.

Usually things coming in are quality second hand, as we seldom buy more than socks, undies and shoes new. Bought a “new” purse yesterday at second hand store, so an old purse is going out. Took several bags of clothes to charity after cleaning out the boys’ dresser last week. Now our dresser is next.

  4. DIY vegetables! -

I miss the stone raised beds we put in at our old place! We need to focus this spring on getting veggies and fruits in at our new home, putting in raised beds and gardens, and deer protection!, and transplanting what we can from the old place, like some of my well established herbs and berries.

  5. Give Thanks Before A Meal -

We’re not Christian, but practice a nature based faith. I have been collecting prayers and blessings from various traditions in a little leather journal I found at the thrift store, including meal blessings, and encouraging my family to join me in blessing and giving thanks for our meals. I need to be more diligent about doing this regularly.
