  1. Stop Taking Plastic Bags From Shops -

Had a big clear out of plastic bag. Took them along with all the other plastic bits and pieces to the recycling place on a dark Sunday evenig….labour of love I suppose. Our bin need only emptying once a month. How I wish the council would listen to my request for an extended service. Not enough money in recycling plastic and cardboard I suppose. Still, I shall keep at it. Marks and Spencers and Duchy’s are good at using recyclable materials. Waitrose is lacking behind.I also wonder what happens to the plastic bags after we have taken them to the recycling centre.

  2. Know your local political leaders -

I have had fun phoning our local councillors. They seem very sensible and are doing what they can for the environment.I just wish they had more influence. Barnet council is still not doing enough , certainly not as much as Haringey or Westminster in terms of creating wild life friendly spaces, looking after the trees or creating safe passage over busy roads for people with pushchairs or wheelchairs or reducing waste. They keep sending us leaflets but little changes.

  3. Make A Special Effort To Look Out For Strangers -

I enjoy talking to people. I chat to the neighbours and I am still trying to organise that drinks party with neighbours who kindly have agreed to be key-holders, I have great conversations on taxi journeys and a few friendly exchanges with fellow passengers make a bus journey so much more fun.

  4. Make A Positive Lifestyle Change And Tell Us About It -

Our recycling is really becoming rather sophisticated and now only takes about 10 minutes a week and a trip to the dump once a month. We are having a rethink of the garden compost and have finally found someone who knows how to transform our slimy little pile at the bottom of a green council bin into something more useful. And yes I did get a lovely fitted cotton sheet for Christmas and hope to add to the collection on later occasions.

  5. Shower More, Bath Less -

Most peoples skin cannot stand all this hot water. A nice oldfshioned soap and a basin of nice hot water will do on most days and one shower and one bath a week keeps me still smelling of roses

  6. Stop Taking Plastic Bags From Shops -

We need to think about the effect it has on the poorest people on the planet if land is taken up with production of bio fuels and plastic bags.

  7. Recycle Your Stuff -

Our conventional bin is not in use any more . We now use it to collect for recycling which we bring to the dump twice a year or Tecos where we never shop! Recycling has become a way of life. Wish we could be rewarded by lower council tax
