  1. Encourage Others To Go Generous -

Faeturing Generous inthis month’s church magazine which is not your average A5 B&W production of births, marriages, deaths and recipes but a professional looking 12 page A4 glossy we use as an outreach tool. Hope a few more people will look and / or join as a result.

  2. Become A Blood Donor -

Been doing this for a while (apart from before/after births of 2 children) but the last two times my blood has been too low in iron t donate – must eat more spinach before the next session as I am nearing my Silver (25th) donation …

  3. Plant some bulbs -

Bought three bags of bilbs and ended up with some daffs free because of a special offer. Children (aged 3 and 6) threw them out across the garden and we planted them where they landed. each one will be a surprise in spring!

  4. Share a Meal With Someone Outside Your Comfort Zone -

Easy to “do lunch” with those we can easily chat to, but much harder to extend to those others, who actually need and would value the interaction more. I’m working my way up to this one but know it’s something I should be doing. Thanks for the encouragement.

  5. Make Your Own Greetings Cards -

Doing this for the first time this year afetr starting small with a few birthday cards during the year. I need this year’s cards from others to become my stock of “bits” for next year though, as I haven’t saved any £ by making them this year. Next year I’ll be better prepared by collecting red and green card, ribbons etc along the way, as I’ve really enjoyed doing it.

  6. Stop Taking Plastic Bags From Shops -

Tesco now offer green clubcard points for bag re-use but I wish instead they just charged for plastic bags. You can buy large canvas type bags – my favourite is a HUGE red one sold by Oxfam recently as a toy storage bag. Also I ordered the recycling sorter bag offered on promotional packs of Nouvelle recycled toilet paper – has wooden handles and really strong. You save so much time packing and unpacking too!

  7. Switch To Energy Saving Lightbulbs -

Redecorated lounge and wanted a decent light fitting. Looked at beautiful ones with 7 or more bulbs but decided on principal to go for only 3 instead, and then got low-energy bulbs for it. They are slightly too long so you can see them from some angles when standing up – but worth it for the saving (of cash and planet).

  8. Save Paper and Packaging: Dump Your Junk Mail -

Thank you – I didn’t know I could Opt Out but I’ve just done it.

  9. Put A Save-A-Flush Device In Your Cistern -

you don’t even need a brick or a gadget – just bend the float arm so that the cistern doesn’t fill so far.

  10. DIY vegetables! -

Kitchen garden magazine is a very good read if you are learning what to grow and how. Very good month by month “what you shoul dbe doing at teh moment” feature

  11. Send a Child a Christmas Box -

Our church does this and sends them to Romania where we have an ongoing link. We did it properly this year – i.e. I covered two boxes with paper and we filled them with items to correspond with my children’s ages and genders. I noticed when giving them in that there was one there labelled “For a mother aged 25-40”, and so next year I’ll do one like that as well. Wish I’d thought of it this year.

  12. Buy Nothing on Buy Nothing Day (November 26th) -

Almost managed to do this (but not quite), and told some friends about it too. I think the principle is great and will try to apply it to more Saturdays on a personal basis.
